  19. Actually, MS-DOS Kermit is far from dead.  You're right, it isn't going to
  20. be redone from scratch, but I expect it to see continued development for
  21. some time to come.  While the user interface is not exactly what you might
  22. want to foist upon a computer newcomer who expects everything to have a
  23. slick graphical appearance and to happen by magic, it is ideal for many
  24. other applications, including those in which an "expert" uses the powerful
  25. script language and customization features to configure it for a
  26. particular use, organization, or environment, where it is then used by
  27. "naive" users, sometimes even without their knowledge.

  29. Meanwhile, I think I speak for everybody in acknowledging the debt of
  30. gratitude that is owed by the world's millions (yes, millions) of MS-DOS
  31. Kermit users to Professor Joe Doupnik of Utah State University for his
  32. continued and unflagging generosity, skill, and dedication in developing
  33. and supporting this program over the past ten (yes, ten) years since he
  34. took it over.

  40. Yes, there is some hope.  Obviously, for reasons of survival, Windows 95
  41. and NT are our top priority, but we have not forgotten about OS/2.
